AMP is very excited about the upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Music and Lyrics by Andrew Lloyd Weber & Tim Rice, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year! This rock opera, which follows the last week of Christ’s life, is not a faithful re-telling of the Bible story.

You will recognize most of the characters, but the story is told from a more human perspective, much of it centered on Judas and his misgivings about the way the crowds are reacting to Jesus’ teaching. We encounter the humanity of Jesus and Pilate. We call this a rock opera rather than a musical because there is no dialogue in the show- like Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera, and many others it is sung through.

This production features a live rock band, a cast of 30+ from Nassau County, Jax, & south GA, including many AMP regulars as well as faces new to our stage, and includes such well-known songs as “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Superstar.”

We are very grateful to Dr. Catherine Drew and Dr,Laura Hume of Florida Psychological Associates for sponsoring this production. Show dates are April 4,5,6, 11,12,13,19,20 at 7:30 pm, Sunday April 7 at 2:30 pm, and something different – a 5:00 pm show on Sunday April 14.

Tickets are $15 for students and $20 for adults. Get tickets online through our website at Brown Paper Tickets or call the box office at 277-3455. AMP is located at 1955 Island Walkway in Fernandina Beach. Jesus Christ Superstar is produced by special arrangement with The Musical Company, New York, NY.
