What if there were an election and nobody ran?

Fernandina Beach City Clerk Caroline Best has asked the Fernandina Observer for help in getting the word out about the upcoming City Commission election.  With much of the election attention focused on national, state and county races, city residents may have lost sight of the fact that one City Commission seat — the one currently held by Mayor-Commissioner Johnny Miller– is also up for election.  To date, according to Best, no one has picked up a packet or officially indicated interest in seeking that office, including the incumbent.

Whoever is elected in the 2016 cycle will hold office for four years, the first such change following the passage of a charter amendment last year that changed the term of office from three to four years.
