Ange Wallace of Wallace Pierson Travel announced that her company was buying out Amelia Schoolhouse Inn for the night of Jan 18, to take all the office staff and special friends to celebrate their roots in the historic building. The Travel Agency (now operating under the same family ownership as Wallace Pierson Travel opened it’s doors the in The Old School House 914 Atlantic Ave day after Labor Day in 1974.

The Amelia Schoolhouse Inn is located at 914 Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach.

The building had just been saved from the wrecking ball by a young attorney at the time, Dan McCranie. Wallace said that McCranie talked his law partner in Jacksonville, Perry Penland, into buying the building to house their new Fernandina office and a few other office spaces. McCranie and Jim Wallace then personally sanded and refinished all the downstairs floors and opened the first Artist Co-op in the back part of the downstairs. From then on there were many iterations of the building. There are many stories and great memories to be shared on the evening of Jan 18, in the Principal’s Office of the beautifully renovated Inn. The Wallace Pierson crowd will also enjoy staying at the 17 room Inn for the evening and waking up to the included continental breakfast and meandering around town just like our tourists get to do!
