SERVING HOME BOUND SENIORS FOR 5 YEARS

Soup TrainSoup Train, an all-volunteer program, provides meals for homebound seniors who have been identified and qualified by the Council on Aging (COA) for the subsidized Meals on Wheels program but for whom there is not enough funding to accommodate their needs.

Through Soup Train up to 40 seniors are provided at least 2 full nutritious meals a week delivered to their homes through COA delivery services. The food is prepared by 12 experienced Soup Train teams which either cook or bake once each month at an approved kitchen in the old middle school in Yulee.

A Program Coordinator is needed to start in October. This can also be a two person team. The process is currently very well organized and documented allowing for a smooth transition. The duties include planning the menus, maintaining the food supplies, supervising the cooking teams and ordering packaging supplies. Computer skills are needed for maintaining the calendar, the inventories of supplies and copies of recipes, box labels and sign in sheets.
Cooking team participants are needed to work on a team helping to prepare a meal once a month. This entails cooking a soup or casserole according to instructions, cooling and putting soup in containers, labeling and placing in freezer. Helping with cleanup and leaving kitchen ready for next users. This requires a 2-3 hour commitment once a month.

Job Reward

Knowing that each month you have helped provide home bound, disabled seniors with nutritious meals and the reassurance that “someone cares”. Full training will be provided. All enquiries can be made by contacting Mary Clemens at [email protected] or 556-6216.
