Tropical Storm Beryl Clean Up – Progress Report

City of Fernandina Beach

Press Release

Submitted by City Manager – Joe Gerrity

As of Friday, June 15, 2012, City employees and Advanced Disposal completed their first pass through City streets picking up debris from Tropical Storm Beryl. Both City and Advanced Disposal employees worked tirelessly the last 16 days removing over 8,000 cubic yards of waste generated by the storm.

Costs associated with the debris removal include $8,000 in overtime pay for City employees and $4,200 worth of fuel and vehicle related expenses. Advanced Disposal covered their cost of the pickup under our contract.   Their combined effort saved the City tens of thousands of dollars when compared to the cost of bringing in a private contractor.

I would like to express my appreciation to Rex Lester, Jeremiah Glisson and their staff for an outstanding effort on behalf of the citizens of Fernandina Beach. Anyone in need of additional service please call the City Manager’s office at 277-7300.
