Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon. The small, front‐yard book exchanges number 36,000 around the world in 70 countries — from Iceland to Tasmania to Amelia Island. Now, a new Little Free Library at 103 South 18th Street Fernandina Beach will join the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers.
This Library is named after George E. Pozzetta, who was a Professor at the University of Florida where he taught History and helped inspire students to delve into the secrets of our shared past. He authored several books that were focused on the rich immigration history of the United States of America and the unique cultural mix of Florida immigrants. The library features a diverse set of books for adults, young adults, and kids too. There is even a special “Date with a Book” promotion that you should definitely try out. The library has been open for a few months and already the guestbook has been signed by people from as far away as Tennessee and Virginia! Please come visit, you never know – you may find your next favorite book!
The Little Free Library nonprofit organization has been honored by the Library of Congress, the National Book Foundation, and the American Library Association, and Reader’s Digest named them one of the “50 Surprising Things We Love about America.” Each year, nearly 10 million books are shared in Little Free Libraries.
