“It is impossible to replicate or share how stunning, creative, and incredibly made these quilts are or how you feel when you look at them! Bravo to all of those who exhibited and shared their amazing talent!” Stephan R. Leimberg

Photographer’s Statement:

Photographing someone else’s artistic work – particularly in the case of quilting – is fraught with danger. First, the lighting is never the same as it was when the artist created the work or the venue in which it was viewed in exhibit. Second, the image is rarely the full image of the artist’s work. You are seeing only a “snippet.” Third, the texture, the three dimensional feel of woven material can not possibly be accurately replicated in a photographic image. Fourth, the photograph is my interpretation of the quilter’s artistry – which may differ widely from that of the artist who – in most cases – I did not have the honor and pleasure of meeting. Finally, as I learned in semantics class, one of the most valuable courses of my college career, the “word is not the thing.” My images of real world objects fall far short of being the object. It is impossible to replicate or share how stunning, creative, and incredibly made these quilts are or how you feel when you look at them! Bravo to all of those who exhibited and shared their amazing talent!

Editor’s Note: Our community is filled with talented artist. Last weekend, the Amelia Island Quilt Guild displayed their works at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center. We thank Steve Leimberg for sharing his photographs with us. There are more available for your viewing by visiting www.UnSeenImages.Com under “Objects of Interest.”

I also attended the quilt show and was in awe of the skill and talent exhibited by the quilt artists. Thank you for sharing some photos of their stunning work. I too took pictures of many quilts to remember the designs, the stitching, the use of color and texture to render such works of art. Their work inspires me in my quilting efforts. I second your thanks to the many people who shared their work with the public at the show.
