Each year Take Stock in Children Nassau staff attend an annual state training conference. This year for the first time Nassau County was recognized with the Luminary Award. The Luminary Award is given to Take Stock in Children affiliates who earn a perfect score on their evaluation. TSIC Nassau received perfect scores in mentor session attendance, college and readiness preparation, and compliance with Take Stock standards and student data tracking requirements.
TSIC Nassau also took home the top affiliate ranking of “Gold”. This is our fifth Gold Award in the six years the award program has been in place. Our staff, Kelli Bristow, Penny Glackin, Johnnie Green, Robin Lentz, and Phyllis Sipes accepted the awards September 26, 2019 at the annual state conference held at the Daytona International Speedway.
Back at home in Fernandina Beach High School six new Take Stock students were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) at Fernandina Beach High school at their recent ceremony. Juniors Alyson Akers, Hadeia Liburd, Mya Mertens, Faith Smith, AJ West and Kamryn Williams were invited to join the exclusive society because they have at least a 3.5 unweighted (4.0 weighted) grade point average and 20 community service hours. They join Take Stock Seniors Yafah Stadeker and Alyson Akers who have been in NHS since last year.
Take Stock currently has 11 additional students who are members of the National Honor Society throughout the county including members from Hilliard Middle Senior High School, West Nassau High School and Yulee High School. Induction ceremonies for new students in these schools will be held later in the school year.
Take Stock in Children students receive college and academic coaching in addition to weekly volunteer mentor sessions as part of the program. After completing the program’s rigorous requirements, they will receive a four-year college tuition scholarship. The Take Stock Board of Directors wishes to congratulate all staff and NHS members on their high-achieving accomplishments. Congratulations to the staff of TSIC as well as to the students that through their achievements gained induction in the NHS. Job well done!
As a mentor in this program I can say from personal experience what a great blessing it is to have the TSIC staff and college coaches working so hard and effectively to help young, economically disadvantaged students as they strive for academic excellence in High School, and work hard towards their goal of a future university degree. God bless them all.
