Suicide can be a difficult topic to discuss, but a May Community Conversation on the subject drew a large number of local residents to dis-cuss risks and prevention strategies.

Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare will host a follow-up conversation about suicide that focuses on special populations including LGBTQ+, adolescents, and older adults. Suicide in Special Populations: Continuing the Conversation will be held Monday, August 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nassau County Council on Aging Fernandina Beach Life Center, 1901 Island Walk Way. The event includes speakers who will out-line the specific risks faced by these special populations, as well as how to identify in-dividuals at risk. The event is hosted by the Nassau County Council on Aging.

Speakers include:

• Mindi Iannarelli, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
• A representative from JASMYN (Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network)

Suicide in Special Populations: Continuing the Conversation is free and open to the public. In addition to the presentations, there will be time for questions and discus-sion with the speakers. Light refreshments will be served and registration is requested.
