Skydive benefit suspended

Press Release

Fernandina Beach Police Department

Police DeptThe Fernandina Beach Police Foundation has announced that the Drop for Cops Parachute Challenge has been cancelled for a variety of reasons.

Organizers of the event had hoped to generate $100,000.00 to fund the Police Officer Assistance Program, which is operated by the Fernandina Beach Police Foundation, a 501(C)(3) organization that also operates and supports programs such as Shop with Cops, the Police Auxiliary Corps, the Police Chaplaincy Corps, and the Citizens Police Academy. Unfortunately, the collective efforts have raised less than $15,000.00 since December and organizers fear the Fort Clinch event will suffer financial losses rather than generate additional funding.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Jack Bradley has become the face of this campaign as he has been bravely battling brain cancer for more than a year. Jack and his family has recently made the decision to take early retirement from the City effective May 1, 2016, and to take advantage of other benefits he is entitled.
Any monies raised to date will be managed by the foundation board and will be available for disbursement after the board considers applications for assistance, which would include any request made by Lt. Bradley or on his behalf.

The Fernandina Beach Police Department and the Fernandina Beach Police Foundation very much appreciate the financial and emotional support from our many colleagues and friends and ask that you keep Police Lieutenant Jack Bradley in your thoughts and prayers.

A big disappointment for those that were looking forward to the jump, but certainly understand the reasons behind the cancellation. Prayers for Lt. Jack and his family.
