Petanque Amelia Island Open Tournament in full swing

Visitors from around the world have arrived on Amelia Island to participate in the annual Petanque Amelia Island Open. The tournament takes place on the Fernandina Beach Waterfront Park south of Brett’s Waterway Cafe through Sunday. For further information see schedule below.

 

SATURDAY
Each team will play a total of 5 qualifying games with a 1 hour plus 1 end time limit. When time is called players will finish their end and are be allowed an extra end if the game is not completed in regulation time. In case of a tie*, play a tie break end to determine the winner. Games are played to 13 points unless time expires. At the end of Day 1, the top 32 teams (based on wins & point differential) will advance to the Main Concours A. The next best 32 teams will advance to Concours B. The remaining teams are seeded into 4 separate Consolantes. The Consolantes will be equal in terms of play & prizes.

7:00am -8:00am Team check-in for late arrivals
8:15am – Opening Ceremony and Group Photos
All games (1hr + 1 end)
9:00 to 10:00 – 1st game
10:30 to 11:30 – 2nd game
Lunch Break with live music
1:00 to 2:00 – 3rd game
2:30 to 3:30 – 4th game
4:00 to 5:00 – 5th game

SUNDAY

Winners of their first games on Sunday will advance within their brackets. Losers will drop into their respective second brackets (AA, BB, CC, etc.) From this point forward, it is single elimination in each bracket. If you lose your second game, you are eliminated from the competition. This makes for 5 rounds of play to determine the winners in all 10 brackets.

All games (1hr + 1 end, except final or decision of organizers)
9:00 to 10:00 – Sixteenth – final
10:30 to 11:30 – Eighth – final
Lunch Break with live music
1:00 to 2:00 – Quarter- final
2:30 to 3:30 – Demi – final
4:00 – Grand Finals followed by Awards Ceremony
