With Hurricane Michael bearing down on the Florida Panhandle, counties without sufficient resources on hand to manage a major disaster have asked the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) for assistance from the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) which is made up of regional teams of public safety professionals willing to deploy in emergencies. Nassau County’s Emergency Management Director, Billy Estep, is the Commander of the NE Florida All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT).

With anticipated significant impacts from Hurricane Michael shifted away from NE Florida, Mr. Estep was tasked by SERT to rapidly assemble six-person Incident Management Teams to deploy to support Holmes and Okaloosa Counties Tuesday afternoon. The teams, made up of professionals from local Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, and Emergency Management agencies, will help manage disaster response operations in those counties for the next two weeks.

Kudos to those assisting our neighbors to the west during this difficult time.
