Community Thanks

On Saturday, May 11th, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) collected food donations to aid the millions of Americans who are struggling with hunger. The Stamp Out Hunger food drive, is the nation’s largest single-day food drive, having collected more than one billion pounds of food since its inception as a national food drive in 1993. This one-day food drive benefited the Barnabas Food Pantry.

Sorting, unloading and boxing the food required the help of many. Barnabas extends a big “Thank You” to our volunteers, partners, including Rayonier and Amelia Island Rotary and the community at large for making the 2019 “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive a success. This year, 21,061 pounds of food were donated and delivered to Barnabas. The postal carriers did the hard work of loading the donated food into their trucks along their mail routes and bringing it to the Barnabas Food Pantry. Volunteers helped unload and sort the food.

Each year, the Barnabas food pantry provides over 370,000 pounds of food to individuals and families right here in our community who are “food insecure,” meaning they don’t know where their next nutritionally adequate meal is coming from. The Stamp Out Hunger food drive helps Barnabas in its endeavor to reduce “food insecurity” in our community and helps to stock the pantry shelves for the coming summer months.
