In response to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Nassau County Manager/Attorney Mike Mullin issued an Executive Order to prohibit cars on the beach. As of 11:00 this morning, cars were not allowed access to beaches in the unincorporated area of Nassau County. Vehicles currently on the beach will be able to remain until 5:00 p.m. No camping or sleeping will be allowed.
Individuals who come to the beach are asked to limit groups to 10 individuals and adhere to Coronavirus guidelines maintaining a safe distance from others.

Closing the beach? Sure, just toss away civil liberties like 1984. I expect with all the NY plates around here we’ll be confined to our homes soon. Why not simply limit group sizes and enforce minimal distances between parties on the beach? Too much work? Perhaps those in support of this idiocy live on the beach side of Fletcher?
My husband and I are building a home at American Beach and wanted an explanation why vehicles are allowed there and not Summer Beach or near the Ritz Carlton – Amelia Island. We are members of the homeowners association and plan to discuss this matter with the leadership to see what can be done to change this policy.
You are like so many others who fall in love with this island then the minute you get here you want to change it to suit your agenda. If you didn’t like they way we have always had access on American Beach, why did you buy here?

I don’t have “an agenda” and we bought there the same reason you and other beach property owners did….because we love the beach . Thanks for giving me a heads up to the kind of “Welcome Wagon” type reception we might get from some of our Nassau County neighbors.
Surely you didn’t buy without knowing it was a drivable beach. This is one of the beaches that I and countless others have been fishing for years, and folks like you want to take it away. The Ritz took it away, Summer Beach took it away. If you can’t coexist, then go away.
To mr. Badger perhaps he hasn’t been to the beach to see the stupidity and the masses of people on top of one another. The beaches were closed at 5 p.m. yesterday because people couldn’t use common sense. I expect mr. Badger to be up at City Hall at 8 a.m. on Monday to volunteer to heard masses of people without Common Sense. Maybe that’s too much for him to do but he should put a lid on criticizing overstressed public servants at this point. Be part of the solution. Words are shallow actions are deeper
