Nassau County Attorney David Hallman passed away this morning at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville. Hallman was hospitalized in early September and according to Circuit Court Judge Robert Foster was being treated for lymphoma. Hallman began his tenure as Nassau County Attorney in 2007.
In July of 2014, Hallman was recognized for the second time in a row by Florida Trend Magazine as one of the State’s “Legal Elites.” The recognition was awarded after a confidential vote from attorneys throughout the state.
Oxley Heard is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Very sad. Praying for his family.
David was a gentleman and great public servant. He will be missed.
Words cannot express the sadness I feel over this loss to our County. Rest in Peace David Hallman.
Today I lost a good friend and mentor. My prayers go out to David’s family and friends.
What a shock snd tremendous amount of sadness. While David and I didm’t always agree on issues, he was always courteous and professional. Our prayers to his family during this time of great sadness.
I was a County Commissioner when David was hired in 2007, and looking back it was one of the best decisions we ever made. His depth of experience and wide variety of knowledge of county topics made him an indispensable member of Nassau County government. He was respected by his peers, county staff, and the taxpayers he served. Over the years we were not only colleagues, but also friends, and I will truly miss him. Replacing him will be a real challenge.
As an Assistant County Attorney for Orange County for 15 years, I got to know David through legal seminars and Florida Bar meetings around the state. I admired him not only because he was a good lawyer, but more importantly because he was a good man.
I am so sad to learn of David’s passing. David was in my study group in law school at UF and I always enjoyed running into him once or twice a year at conferences and seminars. Wonderful person, and no doubt an excellent attorney. Thinking of his family and sending love and prayers.
