Fernandina Beach Mayor Ed Boner recognized August 16, 2014 as “International Homeless Animals’ Day” and the month of August as “Homeless Animals’ Month” by city proclamation at the August 5, 2014 City Commission Regular Meeting. Ms. Beth Hackney, Executive Director of Cat’s Angels, Inc. accepted the Proclamation. Boner called upon “all cat and dog custodians to accept responsibility for the care of their dogs and cats, including having them spayed and neutered to prevent the birth of animals destined to be homeless, unwanted and killed.”
In accepting the proclamation Hackney thanked the city and reported that since 2001, Cat’s Angels has helped spay or neuter over 14,000 animals, including dogs as well as cats. She invited the commissioners and the public to attend the Cats Angels’ Annual Walk and Vigil to Commemorate Homeless Animals Day on Saturday August 16 at the Central Park Gazebo at 6:30 pm. The 2-mile walk begins at 6:30 followed by a candlelight vigil. She said, “Everyone is invited to attend for the walk, vigil or both – including your furry friends.” For more information about Cat’s Angels, visit their website at www.catsangels.com.

What an incredible job that Cat’s Angels performs as evidenced by their numbers. They represent other groups that strive to provide for humane treatment and conditions for our pets and other injured wildlife.
