I-295 resurfacing improvements on Jacksonville’s northside planned to begin in May

FDOT Media Release
May 15, 2018

Jacksonville The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin a resurfacing and safety improvements on I-295 (S.R. 9A) from Trout River Boulevard overpass to east of Biscayne Boulevard overpass Monday, May 19, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

The construction work planned will include:

·         Milling and paving of the roadway and ramps within the project limits

·         Roadway striping

·         Guardrail installation

·         Drainage improvements

·         Other miscellaneous construction improvements

To improve safety, a high friction asphalt mixture will be used to pave a portion of the roadway of the southbound Dunn Avenue entrance ramp loop. This special mixture of asphalt will allow tires to grip the roadway better for motorists while merging on to the interstate.

To complete paving operations, lane closures will be allowed on I-295 Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. No closures are permitted from 5 a.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Lane closure times on Dunn Avenue (S.R. 104), Lem Turner Road (S.R. 115) and Duval Road (S.R. 243) will vary. Detours will also be implemented to complete resurfacing and guardrail installation at the on and off ramps of I-295 within the project limits.

Duval Asphalt Products Inc. was selected to complete the $7.9 million improvement project by late fall 2019, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
