Honolulu struggles with short term rentals

As a community which has struggled in the past with short term rental issues, we thought our readers might be interested in knowing what is happening in Honolulu, Hawaii where the number of un-registered short term rentals is growing.

According to Finnerty’s report, “Lack of enforcement, and tremendous profit potential, has led to the development of a grey market industry that is now worth in excess of $1 billion annually.”

How can we protect the rights of owners, and our residential real estate values, yet deal with short term rentals?
