Friends of Fort Clinch Win Two State Awards

The Friends of Fort Clinch State Park Citizen Support Organization (CSO) was awarded two State awards on March 24, 2018 by Florida State Parks Director, Eric Draper, at a meeting and awards program held at Crystal River Preserve State Park. The organization was selected as the Citizen Support Organization of the Year for contributions to the enhancement of Fort Clinch programs and facilities during 2017. The Friends of Fort Clinch State Park is one of 85 CSO organizations in the State that support 175 Parks.

Accepting the award for the Friends of Fort Clinch included Park Services Specialist, Brandon Volbrecht, CSO President, Don Hughes, Vice-President, Jim McCannell, Membership Chair, Sandra Baker-Hinton, and Park Manager, Heath Alboher.

The Friends of Fort Clinch CSO was also recognized for the best Long-Term Project of the Year in the Historical Education category for the acquisition of the Civilian Conservation Corp Worker Statue #71. The Friends accomplishments are the result of a great working relationship with the Fort Clinch State Park leadership and staff and the tremendous support from the local community. Vice-President, Jim McCannell, chaired the statue project, which was the most ambitious of the many projects completed during 2017.

There are currently 148 Lifetime, Family and Individual members of the Friends of Fort

The awards were sponsored by the Florida State Parks Foundation which supports the Citizen Support Organizations throughout the State.
