Vita-for-webVITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is pleased to provide free electronic (E-File) and paper Income Tax filing assistance for low to moderate income, and elderly tax filers, again this season. VITA has been assisting filers in Nassau County for over ten years helping over 500 tax payers each year. VITA volunteers are tested and certified by the Internal Revenue Service. This free service is provided by the IRS, the Real $ense Prosperity Campaign, a United Way Initiative, and in partnership with the Nassau County Public Library.

Tax filing assistance will begin January 27th and will continue through April 15th. Tax filers who elect to have their returns E-Filed and are due a refund can expect their refund within three days to two weeks with direct deposit.

Appointments for the Atlantic Rec Center location can be made by calling the Nassau County Public Library System, Fernandina Beach Branch Library at 904-277-7365.

Appointments for the Career Source location can be made by calling Career Source at 904-432-0009.

Walk-ins are welcome and will be assisted after appointments.

Please bring photo identification, Social Security Cards, your 2013 Tax return and all 2014 tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s, and SSA-1099s. If in doubt, bring the document. We cannot work from pay stubs or other year-end documents.

It should be pointed out that the VITA preparers are trained and certified with IRS materials, unlike most paid preparers. The IRS tried to have paid preparers certified but the preparers fought the requirement and the courts sided with them.
