Editor’s Note:  Amelia Island Museum Director Phyllis Davis  was asked how the state’s decision to fund zero dollars to the Florida Humanities Council would impact the museum.

“The [Speakers Series Funding] from the Florida Humanities Council allowed us to bring in scholars from across the state of Florida for our 3rd on 3rd Lecture series. Although we have wonderful local speakers, the FHC Speaker Series grants allowed us to get a more in depth vision of not only our area but also how our history is tied to the entire state of Florida. Without these funds the quality and variety of speakers we normally offer to our residents and visitors will not be of the same caliber,” said Davis.

State Senator Aaron Bean said the line item for the Florida Humanities Council is funded  through the transportation and economic development budget. “Every year, new leaders arrive and priorities change,” said Bean.
