Finding Hope in the Middle of Chaos
Wednesday, May 16th at 2:30 pm

Story & Song Bookstore Bistro

No one is ever fully prepared to help a family member through a difficult illness and aging issues, let alone prepare their loved ones for death. In today’s world many are called upon to help from afar – children, nieces or nephews, siblings and even friends.

There are many “how to” books out there on caregiving but few show how, in the end, the caregiver overcomes raw emotions and exhaustion to gain wonderful gifts and a deepened love and understanding for those they help.

Caroline “Lin” Sheppard will share her story of how she was called to oversee the care for five family members over a fifteen year period (from 1999 to 2014). Due to the physical distance between those in need and herself, Lin, a retired social worker, learned the ups and downs and ins and outs of long distance care and how challenging and rewarding it can be.

Also on the program is Maureen Paschke, a former caregiver with a background in gerontology and end of life challenges, who will offer some practical tips for caregivers. After the program, Lin Sheppard will sign copies of her book, When Family Calls.

There is elevator access to the Second Story of Story & Song Bookstore Bistro at 1430 Park Avenue in the Amelia Park Town Center (former location of Artistic Florist), with plenty of parking behind the store. Call 601-2118 for more information. This event is free and open to the public.
