The city of Fernandina Beach has been included in Yachting Magazine’s “Spotlight on 50 Best Towns for 2013.”  Each year, the editors of the magazine pick the top 50 locations and then readers pick the top 10 from this list.   Joe Springer, manager of Fernandina Harbor Marina reported Fernandina Beach beat out fourteen other cities in the South including Fort Lauderdale, Destin, St. Augustine, St. Croix, Charleston and Mobile.

Misc - Boat, City Hall, Waterfront 009In their article, the editors went on to say this about Fernandina Beach, “The discovery – 400 years ago- of an abundance of free-swimming crustaceans helped put this town on our list.  Fernandina Beach celebrates its delicious raison d’etre every year in May with the Eight Flags Shrimp Festival.  If you’d like to drop in for shrimp, or to enjoy Amelia Island’s miles of Appalachian quartz beaches, some fishing or a carriage ride downtown, you can keep your yacht at Fernandina Harbor Marina. This facility is on the Intracoastal Waterway at mile 716 and offers 1,000 feet of linear dock space, 30 and 50 amp shore power, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and more.  The best part?  You are just walking distance to shops, eateries and attractions.  And if you forget the cocktail sauce, we’re pretty sure you can find a spare bottle here.”

“Now it’s up to you to weigh in on which of the top 10 towns is Yachting’s No. 1 waterfront spot for 2013.  Go to facebook.com/yachtingmagazine and cast your vote before August 30.”
