The city of Fernandina Beach has been included in Yachting Magazine’s “Spotlight on 50 Best Towns for 2013.” Each year, the editors of the magazine pick the top 50 locations and then readers pick the top 10 from this list. Joe Springer, manager of Fernandina Harbor Marina reported Fernandina Beach beat out fourteen other cities in the South including Fort Lauderdale, Destin, St. Augustine, St. Croix, Charleston and Mobile.
In their article, the editors went on to say this about Fernandina Beach, “The discovery – 400 years ago- of an abundance of free-swimming crustaceans helped put this town on our list. Fernandina Beach celebrates its delicious raison d’etre every year in May with the Eight Flags Shrimp Festival.
