Fernandina Beach Lime Street Recycle Station faces possible closure

TrashResidents who use the Lime Street Recycle Station north of 8th and Lime to discard recyclables, may see a closed facility if trash continues to be dumped on the site. According to Jeremiah Glisson, fleet and facilities manager, “While recycling participation is the highest it has ever been, the contamination and misuse is also at the highest. We have had to designate a person to clean up the site weekly, as illegal dumping has become so prevalent.”

The recycle station was established and funded by a grant prior to the availability of  curbside pickup.  Contact the Fernandina Beach Police Department at 904-277-7342 if anyone notice individuals dumping trash at the site.

People are really disgusting these days. It would be too bad if closed.

Put a video monitor on the site and a sign that informs people that the site is video taped.

A real shame. Like Jeffrey’s idea to see if FPU will allow a video camers to be mounted with low lighting resolution eith wsrning sign with large $$$$ fine for illegal dumping.

We plan to give the video camera a try and we will also update the signage. Some have suggested staging a 20-yd roll off dumpster for garbage, but the site doesn’t really have room for that. Thank you all for your comments/suggestions.
