FEMA welcomes Nassau County to Community Rating System

Board of Commissioners
Nassau County
Press Release

May 3, 2017 10:00 a.m.

Residents and commercial property owners in the unincorporated areas of Nassau County can now enjoy a reduction in flood insurance premiums due to the county’s active participation in the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS). In addition to lower premiums, the CRS program helps reduce the threat of damage from flood events.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has verified that the voluntary actions undertaken by Nassau County have exceeded the minimum standards of the NFIP and meet the criteria for a CRS Class 8 rating. As a result, flood insurance premium rates will be discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from community actions. County residents will receive a 10 percent discount in the premium cost of flood insurance for NFIP policies issued or renewed in Special Flood Hazard Areas on or after May 1, 2017. This savings is a tangible result of the flood mitigation activities Nassau County implements to protect lives and reduce property damage.

All pertinent documents associated with the Nassau County’s participation in the CRS program, including various other National Flood Insurance Program documents, are now available on the County’s website at www.nassaucountyfl.com. Click on departments, select Planning & Economic Opportunity from the drop down menu, and then select the tab for “National Flood Insurance Program”.
