Epic Proportions opens July 19 at Amelia Community Theatre on the Studio 209 stage. It’s a farcical comedy set in the Arizona desert in the 1930s, where the reclusive filmmaker D.W. DeWitt, is making a Biblical epic with a cast of thousands. Brothers Benny and Phil, played by Cody Dobbs and Geoffrey Moss, sign on to be extras in the film, thinking it will be easy work earning their dollar a day.

Epic Proportions opens July 19 at Amelia Community Theatre on the Studio 209 stage.

Benny has dreams of being discovered and becoming a movie star, but life on the movie set takes unexpected turns for each of the brothers. Benny gets the worst assignments, suffering through the scenes of famine and locusts, while Phil’s high school marching band experience soon leads to his running the whole show.

Louise played by Audrey Antee and Benny played by Coddy Dobbs.

Phil and Benny are both attracted to Assistant Director Louise, played by Audrey Antee, who tries to manage the 3,400 extras by having them count off by fours. As the epic gets bigger and bigger, with one problem after the other, Louise struggles to hold everything together and get the film completed.

The ensemble cast includes Violet Boerescu, Jan Cote-Merow, Doug Embree, Wendy Gilvey, Jeff Goldberg, Jennifer McCarthy, and Elizabeth Sawyer who play dozens of different characters.

Director Linda McClane says, “This is a comedy with gladiator fights, a quirky Queen of the Nile, and a surprising stage combat, and a love triangle. Audiences can relax, have fun, and imagine being one of the 3,400 extras.”
