Sadly, one-in-six Americans struggle with hunger or food inadequacy every day in Northeast Florida. Barnabas’ upcoming Empty Bowls luncheon on November 17th raises much-needed funds for Barnabas Center programs and awareness about how much hunger there is in our community. Guests will enjoy a simple meal of soup, bread and dessert. Each guest may choose a handmade memento bowl to take home as a reminder of all the empty bowls throughout our country and the world. There are still some seat reservations available to this fun and important event.

Throughout this past year, local members of the Boys & Girls Club and other civic groups, local church groups, senior citizens, Barnabas volunteers, local potters and other craftspeople have been hard at work creating the handcrafted ceramic bowls that are a cornerstone of the event. Together with our community partners we will continue work towards ending hunger in our community.

“Barnabas Center is incredibly grateful for the participation of our presenting sponsors: Baptist Medical Center Nassau and the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island,” said Wanda Lanier, Barnabas Center President & CEO. Additionally, Empty Bowls is a recipient of the Delores Barr Weaver Forever Event Fund, Est. 2015 that provides an annual $10,000 grant to help support the event.

This year’s event is the fourth annual Empty Bowls luncheon held in the Atlantic Recreation Center Auditorium in Fernandina Beach and runs from noon to 1 pm.

Seat reservations are currently being accepted online at http://barnabasnassau.org/emptybowls/ The event has sold out the previous three years. Patrons are encouraged to purchase their seat reservations as soon as possible. To learn more about Barnabas’ programs and ways to support, visit www.BarnabasNassau.org or call (904) 261-7000.
