Barnabas Center’s Annual Meeting highlights successes

Barnabas Center held its annual membership meeting on Thursday, January 31 at the Peck Community Center in Fernandina Beach. The meeting provided highlights and accomplishments in 2018 and welcomed new board members: Tammy Johnson, Maureen Paschke and Janet Pfeffer. Outgoing board member, Kathleen Ligare, was recognized for her service to Barnabas over the past six years.

Among the highlights of the past year, outgoing Barnabas Board Chair, Stephen Lee, announced that Barnabas received the Charity Navigator highest, 4-star rating for efficiency, effectiveness and transparency for twelve (12) years in a row; only 1% of charities rated in the United States achieved this status. President and CEO, Wanda Lanier, reported that Barnabas received the prestigious Florida Blue Sapphire Award for excellence in addressing the health care needs of uninsured people in our community. She recognized the many partners that support the agency’s health services including Baptist Medical Center and Baptist Health.

A special announcement was made by the “Campaign for Sustainability” Chair, Julia Taylor, who reported that Barnabas exceeded its $1.5 million goal for its endowment campaign and recognized Jim McManemon, Ritz Carlton general manager, for his leadership as the campaign honorary co-chair. The annual meeting concluded with a special musical presentation by the Peck Community Ensemble.
