Barnabas Center’s recent fifth annual Empty Bowls luncheon was a success thanks to the generous sponsors and donors, more than 400 attendees, event committee, volunteers, and bowl painters. What is Empty Bowls? An empty bowl is the symbol of hunger. In support of our neighbors coping with hunger and food insecurity, each year Barnabas hosts a simple meal of soup, bread, and dessert donated by the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island and the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort. The event raised much-needed funds to support Barnabas programs including food pantry, medical and dental care and crisis assistance.

Barnabas is especially appreciative of the support of the Endowed $10,000 Event Grant Fund est. 2015 by Delores Barr Weaver, along with presenting sponsors, The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island and Baptist Medical Center Nassau. Platinum Sponsors included Omni Resorts Amelia Island Plantation, WestRock, Jack and Charlotte Roberts, David and Judy Easterly and the Berghoef/Boyle Foundation. Gold Sponsors included Martex Landscape Management, Lisa Presnell Productions, Donna Lynne Custom Homes, Castleton Homes and Breakwater Hotel at the Beach.

Barnabas is deeply grateful for the volunteers from the Rotary Club of Amelia Island Sunrise, as well as numerous individuals who donated their time and talents during the event. These individuals include event emcee Lewis Turner, news anchor with First Coast News, the featured speaker, Matthew Dicks and the dedicated committee volunteer members who tirelessly worked to ensure the success of the luncheon including: Chair Pat Hayden and members Anne Apt, Kathi Donegan, Pam Fox, Andrea Hoffman, Robin Jones, Lisa Presnell, Lisa Rozier, Mary Anne Sharer and Annie Sparkle.
