Arts and Culture Nassau recently awarded its first annual Acceleration Grants to four non-profit organizations in Nassau County whose existing programs provide middle and high school age children opportunities to participate in arts and cultural activities.

The 2018 recipients of the $500 grants are “Arts Alive Nassau,” to support and enhance its Honors Chorus program; “Amelia Community Theatre,” to support its summer musical theatre camp; “West Nassau Historical Society”, to enhance the participation of student artists in the Nassau Art at the Callahan Depot Art Show; and “Amelia Island Book Festival”, to provide transportation to over 100 students from the west side of Nassau County to hear David Baldacci speak during the recent annual Book Festival.

These grants are made possible by the sale of “State of the Arts” license plates to Nassau County residents. Each time a county resident purchases one of these specialty license plates a portion of the cost of the plate is remitted to a fund managed by Nassau County. Nassau County has charged Arts and Culture Nassau with applying these funds to county wide arts and culture projects.

Arts and Culture Nassau is an advisory committee appointed by the City of Fernandina Beach and Nassau County. Its mission is “To support, promote, and enhance the arts in Nassau County.” It is the committee’s belief that fostering arts and culture appreciation among youth will create a lifelong appreciation.

Arts and Culture Nassau will hold its second annual Community Arts Forum on October 6 to showcase Nassau County arts and culture organizations. This event is free and open to the public.
