Around town . . .

Next Art Market scheduled for September 8.

It was a windy rainy weekend promised and showers threatened this past Sunday in front of the Carmike Move Theater at the Fernandina Beach Arts Market on South 14th Street and Lime.  However, there were some interesting booths set up with a mixture of arts, crafts, jewelry, music and food-a departure from the downtown Fernandina Farmer’s Market and the one on the south end of the Island at the Plantation.

Arts 2Actually, it was supposed to start up at that location on July 21st, but bad weather threatened that weekend as well, and it didn’t get off until the following Sunday.  This past Sunday, August 25th, was the third time and there were some interesting booths represented from jewelry and tie-dyed clothing to uniquely decorated pillows.  The weather, once again kept crowds away, but the location is ideal for parking unlike the other locations, and will hopefully, continue to grow.

Drs. Joseph and Elizabeth Lee, who own this parcel, envision the market as a “community event and a natural extension of selling Christmas trees and pumpkins during the year.”  They also felt that Saturdays have lots of activities and Sundays not so much. Currently they have about 15 to 20 vendors and expect more local artists and vendors as the event grows.

For more information go to  www.FernandinaBeachArtsMarket.com. The market is open every other Sunday with the next one scheduled for September 8th with hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
