Editor’s Note: Marian Phillips, also known as the “Island Girl,” was born in Jacksonville, Florida and grew up on her beloved Amelia Island. She is the daughter of William J. Phillips of Jacksonville and Janie G. Thomas of Fernandina Beach. Marian graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1979.
Marian developed an early love of photography after her grandparents purchased a Polaroid camera. During her high school years, she took a photography class taught by Phil Mayberry.
For over 37 years, Marian has photographed weddings, special events, and family photos. Marian has a son, Wyatt Lee.
