Amelia Community Theatre begins the new year with the Jen Silverman dark comedy, The Roommate, on the Studio 209 stage. Hazel Robinson plays Sharon, a recently-divorced woman in Iowa who needs a roommate to share expenses. She takes in Robyn, played by Beth Lambert, thinking that they will have a lot in common. Sharon soon discovers that her own sheltered past is vastly different than Robyn’s criminal past, but surprisingly a strong friendship develops.

This quirky play, directed by Shelli Long, delivers potent messages about love, family, and life. It is rated R for adult language and situations. Performances are at 8 p.m. on January 11-12, 17-19, and 2 p.m. on January 13 at 209 Cedar Street. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students through college, available at www.AmeliaCommunityTheatre.org and 904-261-6749.
