Jacksonville, Fla., March 14, 2019 – Timucuan Parks Foundation, AARP and Women of Color Cultural Foundation, Inc. are hosting their monthly walk as part of their Healthy Living series on Wednesday, March 20 at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park. The organizations designed the series, titled “Healthy Living: Fresh Air, Fitness, Friendship and Fun,” to promote healthy living and the therapeutic effects a walk in the park can provide.

Healthy Living: March into Spring will begin at 9 a.m. at the park at 500 Wonderwood Drive. Participants should let the front gate know they are there for the Healthy Living series to get free access into the park. The walk, led by a Hanna Park ranger, will take people through scenic trails within the mature coastal hammock with majestic oaks. Participants are asked to pre-register at https://aarp.cvent.com/HealthyLivingMarchintoSpring032019. Walkers should wear comfortable closed-toed walking shoes and bring a reusable water bottle. Snacks will be provided.

Participants are also asked to bring new or gently worn shoes for the Dream Walkers – Walk in My Shoes community-wide shoe drive. The goal of the drive is to collect shoes for needy families. For more information on the shoe drive, call the Women of Color Cultural Foundation at (904) 635-5191.

The Healthy Living series will continue with an Art in the Park event to be held on April 17 at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park.

Each Healthy Living event will begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 12 p.m. For more information, please contact Felicia Boyd, program and outreach director with Timucuan Parks Foundation, at [email protected] or 904-463-1799.

About Timucuan Parks Foundation

The Timucuan Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization that preserves, promotes and protects Jacksonville’s vast network of preservation parks. The foundation originated in 1999 with the Preservation Project Jacksonville, Inc. to identify and assist in acquiring the most vulnerable and environmentally sensitive lands in Duval County. The acquisition of lands created the largest urban park system in the United States. The Timucuan Parks Foundation works with park partners, including the National Park Service, Florida State Parks and the City of Jacksonville, to promote environmental stewardship, the health benefits of the parks and preserves, and an appreciation for Jacksonville’s special outdoor spaces.
