Whigham Sentenced for Second-Degree Murder

Today, Shawn Lamont Whigham, pleaded no contest to a 20-year prison sentence for second-degree murder and armed burglary with assault, and a15-year prison sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the Coleen Potts case which occurred on October 24, 2021; the prison sentences will be served concurrently.

Thank you to the Criminal Investigations Bureau and Detective Christina Corbitt for all the hard work and professionalism in solving this case. Also, we would like to thank Jennifer Dunton with the 7th Circuit State Attorney’s Office for prosecuting the case.

Although this will not alleviate the anguish felt by the Potts family, we sincerely hope that it provides them with a sense of closure.
