This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Magellan-Elcano expedition. Ferdinand Magellan, admiral of the Spanish Fleet, commanded a small armada of five ships to sail around the world for the first time. It took three years, concluding when one of the ships, Victoria, under Captain Elcano completed the circumnavigation in 1522.
Sponsored by Amelia River Cruises and Charters and the Amelia Island Convention & Visitor Bureau, this floating museum of Spanish maritime history will be on display until Dec. 5.
