Hello! We at the museum are dedicated to promoting public health and wellness in all of our event planning, programs, tours, and daily operations. Recently the Florida Department of health has issued information on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, commonly referred to as "Coronavirus," in Fernandina Beach and Nassau County. Much of this information can be found at FloridaHealth.gov or through the CDC website.
Although the odds of spreading COVID-19 at our monthly events are very low, we are taking precautions to ensure that our visitors, volunteers, and staff continue to have a healthy and enjoyable experience within the museum. Here are some general tips for what we all can do to assist prevention:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20+ seconds
Get good sleep and eat well-balanced meals
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing
Clean and disinfect "high touch surfaces"
Stay at home when you are sick
Avoid contact with sick people
Call ahead before you make a doctors appointment
How Does COVID-19 Affect Upcoming Museum Events?
Many of our upcoming events are relatively small-scale with minimal risk of spreading infection. However, we have been working with our community partners and our local government to determine the best course of action for larger events. Here are how some of our events have been impacted:
The Middle Passage Marker Unveiling Ceremony is being rescheduled to a later date in the summer. More details will follow.
The Cottages and Courtyards tour in April has been canceled.
Several of our upcoming programs (Brown Bag Lunch, 3rd on 3rd, and high school exhibit opening) will continue as planned.
We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events in March and April. Thank you again for supporting the Museum!

Exhibit Opening: "Leaving America: Fernandina Beach in the Civil War and Reconstruction" with Take Stock in Children
Friday March 27 at 6 pm
Join us at the Amelia Island Museum of History on Friday, March 13 at 6 pm for a very special exhibit by local high school students in close partnership with Take Stock in Children.
As one of Florida's most important ports, Fernandina became a huge staging ground for Federal operations in the South and later became critical to the Reconstruction effort in the state of Florida.
The exhibit will feature a short program with the students and special guest Frank Ofeldt, followed by a reception in the exhibit galleries. Come help us support the efforts of these students as they share our local history.
Attendance is a suggested donation of $5 for museum members and $10 for nonmembers. Seating for the program is first-come, first-served and is wheelchair accessible. For more information contact Joshua at 904-261-7378 x.102 or [email protected].
