Genece Minshew was still leading Friday as the winner over City Commission incumbent Vice Mayor David Sturges following a recount of all provisional ballots by the Nassau County Supervisor of Elections.
Tuesday's vote had Minshew winning by a narrow 19 votes out of 9,200 votes cast, but did not include provisional ballots and cure affidavits. A state-mandated recount of those ballots was performed Thursday at a meeting of the Canvassing Board for the Elections Office.
A tabulation of all votes will take place next Wednesday. The results are considered unofficial until the Canvassing Board makes a final certification on Nov. 15. However, those vote results are unlikely to change.
In the recount, Minshew picked up eight more votes, with Sturges gaining seven. Minshew's margin is now 20 votes in the closest city commission election in recent history.
