October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). Each year, the month of October reinforces advocacy unity throughout the nation to raise awareness of and to help end domestic violence. Domestic violence can take on many forms: physical, emotional, financial, sexual and digital abuse.
Through community events in October, Micah’s Place endeavors to raise awareness about the signs of domestic violence abuse and ways to stop it:
Coffee with an Advocate: Chat with one of our advocates about domestic violence awareness while enjoying a great cup of coffee! At Mocama, Fernandina Beach, Oct. 26 and at Sweet As Cyn Coffeehouse in Yulee on Oct. 18 and 24.
Disco Witch: “In Her Shoes” – A survivor walk-through experience, as it relates to the struggles that many survivors have to overcome when involved in a domestic violence situation. At Disco Witch Brewing, Fernandina Beach, Oct. 19.
The Callahan Fair: Visit our Awareness booth from Oct. 12 through 22 at the Northeast Florida Fairgrounds, in Callahan.
Hot Doghouse: Add a “Nassau Special” hot dog to your next order to help Micah’s Place increase domestic violence awareness. Located at Ace Hardware, Fernandina Beach.
Winn Dixie: Donate non-perishable canned goods for survivors at Winn Dixies throughout Nassau County.
