7/27/20 @ 9:30 a.m. - Every ten years, the Census counts every person that lives in the United States and five U.S. Territories (Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands). The information collected provides critical data to lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others to provide daily services, products and support for our community, and is used to determine how federal funding is allocated to each State, county and city. This funding is used for hospitals, schools, libraries, fire departments, roads, community organizations and more.
The results also determine the number of seats each State will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and is used to draw congressional and State legislative districts. It's important to make sure we have adequate representation to ensure we are considered for federal funding and other important matters under consideration by Congress.
For every person not counted, the County loses thousands of dollars in potential funding that can be used to help make our community a better place. If you have not yet, please complete your Census survey. Right now, Nassau County's self-report response is 59.7%. As you can see from the map, Hilliard and the American Beach area have been the slowest to respond.
Help us make sure you are counted in 2020. We won't have another opportunity until year 2030.
