African American film studio featured in Jacksonville Library exhibit and programs

Norman Studios Traveling Exhibit  is on display at the Main Jacksonville Main Library in the 4thfloor  Atrium from September through December.

Programs:  As part of the Exhibit, Norman Studios Silent Film Museum, Inc., is hosting a series of speakers showcasing the various roles Norman Silent Film Studios will play In Arlington.  This week’s program features presentations by well-known Arlington activists.

Date and Time:  The 90- minute program for Saturday, October 12, is at 2:00PM, in the 4th floor Map Room.

Opening:  Audience will receive Greetings and a summary of Council Member Joyce Morgan ‘s  Arlington initiatives.    

The speakers will emphasize the contributions their organizations have made to Arlington and what needs to be done to galvanize revitalization in the community.

Dr. Joy Hervey has used her degrees from Harvard University and Columbia University Teachers College in a life devoted to supporting churches and organizations working for children, youth, and families in underserved communities.  As a Fulbright Scholar, she studied education reforms  in Ghana, West Africa.  Currently she serves as CEO of Revitalize Arlington, Inc. and Co-Chair and   Arlington 20/20 www.arlington2020jax.org, associated with Impact Church.    Topic:      

Lad Hawkins, a 50-year resident and activist of Arlington, founded the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens. He has served as president of the Greater Arlington Civic Council (GACC) for over 10 years. He has been deeply involved in most of Arlington’s planning and development, including the current Old Arlington CRA.  [email protected]

Dr. Jesse Hingson is Professor of History and Chair of the Division of Social Sciences at Jacksonville University.  He specializes primarily in the histories of Argentina and Peru, and his work has been supported by grants from Fulbright, Rotary International, and the United States Department of Education. He will discuss The JaxApp Project          [email protected]

Rita Reagan, founding member of NSSFM, will lead a brief discussion of Film as a Catalyst for Arlington Revitalization.
