The Island Chamber Singers will perform choruses from Felix Mendelssohn’s famous oratorio, Elijah, on April 13 and 15 at Amelia Plantation Chapel.

Elijah premiered in 1846 at England’s Birmingham Festival. It depicts the life journey of the Biblical prophet Elijah taken from the Old Testament. The Chamber Singers will be accompanied by strings, timpani and piano and led by ICS Founder and Director Jane Lindberg. The story of Elijah’s life will be narrated, rather than sung, so as to highlight the magnificent and dramatic choruses. The choruses, from Parts I and II of the oratorio, will be performed by the entire choir with a few sections that feature small ensembles within the choir.

The concerts will take place at Amelia Plantation Chapel, 36 Bowman Road, Amelia Island, on Friday, April 13, at 7 pm and Sunday, April 15, at 3 pm. An opening night reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall immediately following Friday evening’s performance.

Tickets are $20 for adults when purchased in advance of concert day.
