Summer Art Project Encourages Kindness While Exploring Amelia Island, Florida

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. (July 8, 2022) – The Amelia Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (AICVB) has partnered with Arts & Culture Nassau to create a traveling mural for visitors and locals alike to enjoy while discovering Amelia Island. Those who find the mural are encouraged to share their own photos and memories of it on social media using #BeKindAmelia. The traveling mural was created by local artist Lamar Miles and was initially placed at the Amelia Island Welcome Center (102 Centre Street) on Friday, July 1. The mural will move to the pocket park next to Amelia Island Coffee (July 8-15) before visiting several Amelia Island locations throughout July and August.

In July, the #BeKindAmelia mural schedule includes:

  • July 8-15: The pocket park next to Amelia Island Coffee (July 8-15)
  • July 15-22: Fernandina Harbor Marina (July 15-22)
  • July 22-29: South 2nd Street and Ash Street at the park across from City Hall (Jul 22-29)

In August, the #BeKindAmelia mural schedule includes:

  • July 29-August 5: Main Beach Park
  • August 5-12: Seaside Park
  • August 12-19: Peter’s Point
  • August 19-26: American Beach/Burney Park

“During the busy summer months, hospitality professionals in Amelia’s restaurants, hotels, attractions and shops thrive on and return the positivity and kindness of our visitors as they explore and discover the island,” said Gil Langley, President and CEO of the AICVB. “The traveling #BeKindAmelia mural is a visual representation and reminder for visitors to help spread kindness and make the most of their time on Amelia Island.”

According to Langley, the mural campaign promotes six easy ways visitors can avoid or minimize some of the common situations that can sometimes disrupt an otherwise memorable vacation experience in a popular destination like Amelia Island.

  • Plan Ahead. Before venturing out for a day of fun, check your options and plan ahead by making dinner reservations, tee times, and other scheduled activity in advance to avoid delays. Amelia Island has a lot of options – golf courses, restaurants, boating and fishing trips, and more – so if one thing isn’t available, visitors can easily move on to the next.
  • Try Something New. If your favorite restaurant is booked, try one of the island’s many new award-winning dining hot spots. And if your go-to meal isn’t on the menu, try the chef’s special, which is always good.
  • Say Thank You. The tourism industry is made up of great people who want you to have the best vacation ever and love serving you. Saying “thank you” really does go a long way.
  • Be Patient. Summertime on Amelia Island is awesome, but it may come with wait times. Take this opportunity to slow down and appreciate the scenery around you. Maybe play a round of nearby mini golf or stroll the area while you wait.
  • Have Fun. Embrace the moments and most importantly remember that you’ve traveled and chosen Amelia Island to make memories that will last a lifetime.
  • Remember. On a southern island, the pace is supposed move a little slower so you can savor the moments.
