Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trees for America’s Troops event will not be held as planned in 2020.  Trees for America’s Troops, Inc., is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to send some of the joys of the season to deployed military personnel who will spend the holidays far from home and family.
For the past nine years, the organization held its annual event in November at Memorial United Methodist Church’s Maxwell Hall.  In 2019, over 170 volunteers spent three days decorating 24″ Christmas trees and receiving, sorting, and packing gifts for over 1,000 men and women serving throughout the world.  Trees’ board of directors remains active and hopes to resume its yearly event in November 2021.
Trees for America’s Troops, Inc., was established in memory of SP4 Kelly J. Mixon of Fernandina Beach, who was killed in action in Kandahar, Afghanistan.  December 8, 2020, will be the tenth anniversary of his death.
