Anna Laws, the new Executive Director of the St. Marys Riverkeepers.

Wild Amelia will host the February Wild Nite on “Riverkeepers,” on Tuesday, February 12th, at 7 pm at the Peck Center, 516 S. 10th Street in Fernandina Beach. Anna Laws, the new Executive Director of the St. Marys Riverkeeper, will be the guest speaker.

Ms. Laws will give an overview of the mission and work of the Waterkeeper Alliance, with particular emphasis on the St. Marys Riverkeepers. She will discuss the threats to the watershed and what people can do to mitigate them. She will also focus on Riverkeeper projects, especially those that focus on Nassau County.

A native of coastal Georgia, Anna earned her Masters of Science in Conservation Biology from the Durrell Institute of Conservation Ecology in the United Kingdom. She has worked and studied in Borneo and Kenya; prior to her work with Riverkeeper, she worked as a fisheries and seabird ecologist for Oregon State University. She joined St. Marys Riverkeeper in 2018 and has just assumed the role of Riverkeeper.

Come learn about the vital work of the Riverkeeper at this Wild Nite, which is open to the public. Wild Amelia holds Wild Nite Nature forums monthly from September through May and other year-round educational programs for adults
and children, leading up to the Wild Amelia Nature Festival on the third weekend in May. This year, the 13th annual Festival will be held from May 17-19, 2019.
