Weekend Fire on South Fletcher

A call was received at 11:22 a.m. Saturday morning alerting the City of Fernandina Beach Fire and Rescue Department of a residential fire in the 2700 block of South Fletcher, according to city manager, Joe Gerrity.   No one was home at the time of the fire.

Although early in the investigation, Jason Higginbotham, Interim Fire Chief, noted construction workers performing roof repair as a result of Tropical Storm Beryl were using torch down roof applications.  Smoke was noticed minutes after the construction workers left the residence.  There was significant damage to the roof and attic space.

No injuries were reported.
