A single page public notice announcing the U.S. Postal Service is accepting public comment “to the disposal action of a building approximately 20,661 square feet located at 1997 Sadler Road” hangs in the lobby of the historic downtown post office.
Just around the corner is the 8 page final determination letter that states the downtown post office will close. What is likely a mix up is causing great excitement among historic post office lovers. “Perhaps we can have a bit more time,” states one customer who enjoys her daily trips downtown to retrieve her mail.
Alice Ryle, United States Postal Service discontinuance coordinator for the Gulf and Atlantic region, was unavailable for comment.
