-Talbot Islands hosts interpretive programs for the entire family-

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Talbot Islands State Parks invite visitors to explore the area’s natural environment throughout the month of January. Visitors will have the chance to discover the importance of the wildlife and vegetation that is part of north Florida’s barrier islands.

January programs include:

Talbot Critters
Little Talbot Island State Park
Saturday, January 25 at 1:00 p.m.
Join a park ranger to learn about the common wildlife species that inhabit the natural communities of the undeveloped barrier islands of northeast Florida. This program will take place at pavilion #1 at the North Beach parking area at Little Talbot Island State Park. No reservations are necessary and the program is free with $5 per vehicle park admission.

2020 Timucuan Science and History Symposium
Fort George Island Cultural State Park – Ribault Club
Friday, January 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The National Park Service and Florida Park Service invite you to the 8th Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve Science and History Symposium on Friday, January 31, 2020 at the Ribault Club on Fort George Island in Jacksonville, Florida. Check-in opens at 8:00 a.m. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. Come and “Connect with and create the next generation of park scientists, historians and researchers”. Registration is required and available at: https://www.timucuanparks.org/2020-symposium/.

Naturalist Tour of Spoonbill Pond
Big Talbot Island State Park
Saturday, February 1 at 8:30 a.m.
Join master naturalist, Ron Pfeffer, of the Friends of Talbot Islands State Parks and North Florida Land Trust atop a coastal boardwalk for a guided walk at one of the area’s best locations for birding with over 200 species recorded! Birders and nature lovers of all experience levels are welcome to come and discover the abundance and diversity of bird life at our parks. Space is limited so please sign-up in advance at https://signup.com/go/jKrxzzq. Meet at the Sawpit Creek boat ramp parking where the program is free with $2 per person parking admission, cash only.

Beach Cleanup with Sea Sheperd
Little Talbot Island State Park
Saturday, February 1 at 9:00 a.m.
Volunteer with Sea Sheperd to clean up the shoreline of Little Talbot Island State Park. Collect debris and smiles as you work to better the beaches for our coastal nesting species including sea turtles and shorebirds. Bring sunscreen, buspray and water. The group will meet at the North Beach Pavilion area on Little Talbot Island State Park. No reservations are necessary and park entrance fees are waived for volunteers.

Dune Ridge Trail Hike
Little Talbot Island State Park
Saturday, February 1 at 11:00 a.m.
Join a park ranger for a hike along the 4-mile Dune Ridge Trail through maritime hammock forest and ending with a walk on the beach as they explain the importance of undeveloped beach habitat, including many interesting facts about sea creatures and common shells and fossils found on the shoreline. Bring sunscreen, bugspray and water. The program will take place at North Beach pavilion area on Little Talbot Island State Park. No reservations are necessary and the program is free with $5 vehicle entrance fee.

The Florida Park Service is dedicated to providing programs that are accessible to all. Persons with special needs which may limit participation or enjoyment of any program should advise the park in advance so assistance with reasonable accommodations can be provided.
