Submitted by Len Kreger

In an effort to expand both participants and scope, the Sustainable Fernandina Committee is being reorganized from a city committee to a citizen based committee.   Initially the new organization will be named Sustainable Amelia Island.

The new group will be open to all Nassau County residents along with other interested individuals and groups.  Stakeholders will determine the direction and goals of the group.  The initial reorganization meeting will be conducted on November 5, 2012 at 6:30 pm at Peck Center on South 10th Street.

A common definition of sustainability is the development or practices that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  This definition covers a very broad area which includes; environmental, social and economic considerations.  Some of the areas of anticipated emphasis are;   energy conservation, renewable energy, environmental management and economic development.
