“Students will present their speeches at Rotary club meetings around the region and club members will vote to determine who will move on to the final competition on February 17″
The Rotary Club of South Jacksonville is thrilled to announce that the 2022 Oratory Competition Final will be held on February 17, 2022 at the WJCT Studios. The Project was created by the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville in 2015. Participants must be high school seniors and prepare a speech according to the theme chosen by the South Jacksonville Rotary Oratory Competition Committee. Winners are awarded scholarships to pursue their continuing education. Individual award distributions are $5,000 for 1st Place; $3,000 for 2nd Place; $1,000 for 3rd place. The total amount of scholarships awarded to students to date is $94,800.
Each year the Rotary Oratory Committee determines what speech topic to offer the high school seniors. The topics are meant to be a true academic exercise and current, meaningful, and thought provoking.
In consideration of Rotary International’s 2021-2022 theme “Serve to Change Lives,” participants in this year’s project will select a written document that they believe has made a major impact on society at some point in history and verbally present their reasons supported by how it has impacted them, along with documented facts, actual results from the written piece and recorded public opinions. Students will present their speeches at Rotary club meetings around the region and club members will vote to determine who will move on to the final competition on February 17.
